West Ham College Studio School (Mustafa Erdem at WS Atkins)

The key purpose of this study is to set out simple, realistic, non-statutory area estimates for the Studio School. The study will also provide the local authority, regeneration agency and other stakeholders with a high level, analytical type, guide to assist in the development of the vision and aspirations for the Studio School scheme. A summary of the estimated costs are also included.

This study also provides a visual study of a building footprint and the surrounding spaces.

The preliminary spatial study options considered.

The Proposal:

•A pilot Enterprise Studio School
•The school is to link into vocational activities provided for Newham Council through Newham College.
•Leads a pan-London Enterprise Centre of Vocational Excellence
•The college has established five of its own enterprises including;
–A fashion retail outlet
–A museum shop
–High street hairdressing salon
–A private day nursery
•Track record of business development with strong employer links and is a partner in both National Financial Services Skills academy, and is the lead partner (along with Skillfast-UK) for the National Skills Academy for Fashion, Textiles and Jewellery). These sectors will be ´core sectors` for the school.
•The school will play a full role within the 14-19 Partnership and will provide 300 places (100 14-16 and 200 16-19) for young people.
